Father Dies Trying To Rescue Daughter From Fire
Man Returns To Burning Building To Try To Rescue Disabled Daughter

PITTSFIELD, N.H. -- Pittsfield fire officials said a father and daughter were killed in an early-morning fire at 36 Main St.
Neighbors said shortly after the fire broke out, a 54-year-old resident ran out of the apartment looking for help. He told a neighbor to call 911 while he and his son returned to try to rescue a 26-year-old woman still in the apartment. The man was able to get back into the apartment, but flames kept the son out.The man and woman were both killed. Fire officials said one of the victims was found in the bedroom while another was found in the apartment's living room.Neighbors told News 9 that the two were father and daughter and that the woman had a disability.Officials said there are four units in the apartment building but they were not sure if all of the units were occupied. An investigator from the state fire marshal's office was at the scene Monday morning as the search began for the cause of the fire.Pittsfield Middle High School was closed Monday because of a power outage caused by the deadly fire. The elementary school will remain open.
